21 Januar 2019

Thanks to plenty of springs on its territory, Tuscany is the Italian region with the highest number of thermal baths where the wellness connected to the water is central in the experience of the persons visiting these structures for health reasons or just for spending a relaxing day.

We already told you about the Tuscan thermal baths for some wellness holidays like the ones in Montepulciano and Chianciano, not far from Borgo Tre Rose and renowned for the qualities of their waters ever since the ancient times; San Casciano dei Bagni with its 42 thermal springs and Bagno Vignoni the hamlet that had developed right around the large tub of water in which the big personalities of the past already went to find their good shape.

This area is rich from every point of view, from the agricultural production to the one strictly connected to the tradition, as to the wines one that has gained, in time, different rewards and certifications DOC and DOCG.

At the same time, also every thermal spring has its own characteristics that have been enhanced over the centuries by the cities that have developed around each one of them; it is not by chance, indeed, that also the Via Francigena, which used to bring pilgrims to Rome, stopped in some of these thermal locations in Val di Chiana to offer opportunities of refreshment and well-being to the travelers.

South of Montepulciano, on an upland between Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia, there is Sarteano, a hamlet whose origins date back to the Etruscan times. Not far from its historical center, the Parco delle Piscine is an excellent occasion to enjoy a relaxing break because of the thermo-mineral waters of the Canalette spring, also called Santa Lucia. These flow at a constant temperature of 24 degrees and are considered therapeutic for eye infections and excellent for eliminating skin impurities, so they are also known as the waters of the Bagno Santo (Holy bath).

The thermal wellness close to Siena

Straddling the districts of the Val di Chiana and of the Crete Senesi, an area with lunar characteristics due to the presence of clay in the ground, there are the thermal baths of Rapolano Terme, whose warm and mineral-rich waters have been known for their qualities since the Fifth century BC. The two structures, Antica Querciolaia and Terme di San Giovanni, allow you to choose from a wide range of treatments for specific diseases or to get your wellbeing again surrounded by nature.

Lastly, along the border between the province of Siena and Grosseto, the Terme di Petriolo: deep in the uncontaminated Tuscan nature – the nearest town is Monticiano, about 5 kilometers – these natural pools of salt water, with a high concentration of limestone and sulfur, are not only perfect for the treatment of chronic diseases of the skin and of the osteoarticular apparatus but also to remove stress as a result of their relaxing effect on muscles and nerves. Since the Roman times, these pools of water at a temperature of 43 degrees and are free of charge.
